Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) refers to giving birth vaginally after having had a previous caesarean delivery. For appropriately selected women, attempting a vaginal birth after a previous caesarean may be a suitable option. The decision requires careful assessment, individualized counselling, and delivery in a healthcare facility equipped to provide continuous monitoring and emergency care if required.

Eligibility for VBAC depends on several factors, including the type of previous uterine incision, reason for the earlier caesarean delivery, number of previous caesarean sections, history of vaginal birth, current pregnancy condition, and overall health of the mother and baby.

Potential benefits of a successful VBAC may include avoidance of major abdominal surgery, shorter recovery time, reduced risk of certain surgical complications, and a shorter hospital stay.
