Uterine Bleeding

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) refers to bleeding that is unusually heavy, prolonged, irregular, or occurs between menstrual periods. It may be caused by hormonal imbalance, uterine fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, endometriosis, thyroid disorders, or, less commonly, precancerous or cancerous conditions.

Women with AUB may experience heavy menstrual flow, prolonged bleeding, frequent periods, or bleeding after menopause. Evaluation typically includes pelvic examination, ultrasound, blood investigations, Pap smear when indicated, and endometrial sampling in selected cases.

Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may involve medications, hormonal therapy, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery. Prompt diagnosis is essential to prevent anemia and identify serious underlying conditions.
