Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove an ovarian cyst while preserving healthy ovarian tissue whenever clinically possible. It may be recommended for cysts that are persistent, large, symptomatic, increasing in size, or have concerning features on imaging.

The procedure is performed through small abdominal incisions using a laparoscope and specialized instruments. The cyst is carefully separated from the ovary, with attention to preserving ovarian function, particularly in women who wish to maintain their fertility.

Before surgery, evaluation may include pelvic ultrasound, blood investigations, and additional imaging or tumor markers when clinically indicated. Treatment decisions depend on the patient's age, symptoms, cyst characteristics, and reproductive plans.

For appropriately selected patients, laparoscopic surgery may provide smaller scars, less postoperative discomfort, shorter hospitalization, and faster recovery.
